Meet The Founders
Paul Smith, owner of Custom Contracting Group, has been serving the construction and renovation industry for over 40 years. His journey began in his early twenties as a carpentry apprentice in the Owen Sound area. After a year framing new homes, Paul moved to the Kitchener-Waterloo region in 1981 to continue his apprenticeship with a custom cabinetry and general construction company.

During this time, he gained extensive hands-on experience working in the custom cabinetry shop as well as on-site installations. His work expanded into commercial and institutional cabinetry and construction projects throughout Southern Ontario, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area.
​
After two years, Paul moved on to another local renovation company where he spent the next several years working primarily in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. There, he specialized in custom residential renovations of all kinds, including kitchens, bathrooms, recreation rooms, and home additions.
With growing confidence in his skills—and guided by the values of courtesy, honesty, approachability, and doing the job right the first time—Paul decided to start his own company. He purchased a brand-new truck and cap from Forbes Motors and launched his renovation business under the name Renovations Etc.

Starting a business was a leap outside his comfort zone, but Paul was supported every step of the way by his new wife, Vicki. With her background in finance and bookkeeping, she played an essential role in helping the business grow and succeed. Together, they began a decades-long journey built on hard work, dedication, and a commitment not only to their family but also to the many clients they have had the privilege of serving throughout the community—and many of whom remain valued clients to this day.

In the early 2000s, the company evolved and was renamed Custom Contracting Group to better reflect the growth of the business and the full range of services it had come to offer.
Fast forward to today, the company has evolved to include their son, Alex, who has been working within the organization for over 10 years. He currently holds the position of General Manager and overseas the daily operations with the same passion and dedication that has been a fixture in the business for so many decades
